Avon Rotary Youth

The Avon Rotary Club supports youth, locally and internationally, in a number of ways.

International Rotary Youth Exchange

The Avon Rotary Club is an active supporter of the Rotary International Youth Exchange program. It's a wonderful and very effective way to forge bridges and foster understanding and goodwill between the peoples of this earth.
Every year, the Club sends out an Avon youth, and receives a student from another country. Over the years we have hosted many students, from France, The Netherlands, Sweden, Argentina, and many others.

For more information on the program, see the Youth Exchange web pages of District 7120 or Rotary International, or ask one of the Club's Youth Exchange officers, Linda Kimes and Doug Reed.

Avon Rotary Interact Club

A group of high school students, with the encouragement and support of the Avon Rotary Club, founded the Avon Rotary Interact Club in 1988. Interact is a service organization with a motto of "serious fun." Members participate in several community-based service projects including highway cleanups and holiday food baskets. Every year they host a weekend gathering of the District Rotary Exchange students from around the globe to promote international goodwill. Interact isn't all hard work, though. Members are invited to Rotary meetings and plan social events for themselves over the course of the year.

Interact is open to all interested students in grades 9 through 12 at the Avon High School. Interact is always looking for new members to participate in meetings, service projects, fundraising events and social activities.

The 2009-2010 President of the Avon Interact Club is Ashley Reed.

Scouting

The Avon Rotary Club has been supporting the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts by chartering a Pack and a Troop for over 60 years. At various times the Club has sponsored campers and Eagle Scout projects, donated money to the unit, and has maintained the Troop House for the Boy Scouts to meet every week and store all their gear.

For more information on Scouting, see our scouting page, or contact Avon Rotarian Jim Yencer.

Literacy Program

The Avon Rotary Club actively promotes reading and literacy among our youth by volunteering as primary school story readers and by distributing every year between 120 and 150 dictionaries to all 3rd graders at Avon Central Primary School and at St. Agnes School.

For more information on our literary program, see the District 7120 web site, or contact Avon Rotarian Dan Jones.
