WoW!! Our weather bypassed spring and surprised us with summer, all in one day. I hope everyone had some time to enjoy the arrival of "warm" (read, "hot, hot") temps on Saturday.
Our meeting on April 21 featured a song for all the grass-growing and -cutting members of our club: "I'm Looking over a four-leaf CLOVER". We welcomed our Italian exchange student Emiliano D'Ortenzi and our Interact President Danielle McBride.
Updates on Barb Cole and Betty Croop: there are hopes to bring each of them to their homes this weekend.
Emiliano gave us a presentation on Rome, his home city, and some of the highlights of his year here in Avon.
Announcements: Secretary Diana is assembling the 100% attendance lists for the end of this year. If you think you have had perfect attendance, please notify her: Dianawilliams@bankofcastile.com.
For those friends of Tim Dickinson, who might not have heard, his father-in-law passed away recently. And we have received a very nice note from Kirk Vanderbilt and his family, thanking us for the flowers sent at the time of his mom's funeral, and for the support and kindness of all the community, and Avon Rotary in particular.
Dave Henehan celebrated an article in the N R A monthly magazine, highlighting our own Genesee Valley Rotary Camp. Thanks to past prez Bill Wall for bringing this to our attention.
Other celebrations this week!! Marcy Cameron celebrated her new grandson, Liam, weighing in at 8 lb. 3 oz. and 21" in height (well, 21" long, he would not stand up to be measured). Congratulations!
Mark Evans discussed our gathering for Tuesday, September 1, being coordinated with former Rotarian Shirley Figueroa. On that date, the Batavia Muck Dogs will be fighting the State College (PA.) team. Well, it sounds like a fighting team's name. At any rate, it'll be a great time, with special rates for the meal packages. Mark will be glad to furnish additional details. Save the date!!
Bill Shaw finally celebrated his time in Florida. He brought back a gift from Florida for your Club President, but neglected to give it to her, and ate it himself. I guess that's better than some former presidents who bring back Florida citrus and use them as weapons of face destruction.
Welcome again!! to prospective member Greg Johnson. He's featured on the cover of "Woodworking in Action" and may be seen on www.woodworkinginaction.com. Greg is very smart to announce this before becoming a club member. Already, he realizes that he would be fined for this publicity if he were a member!!
Thanks to Bill Wall for bringing our special program presenter for this week: Don Henderson provided an interesting and informative discussion on biodiesel fuels, development, processing and usage. Thanks to him.
The Rochester Deaf Rotary is deserving of our support for their sale: one dozen long-stemmed red roses, for $20.00, which our past ADG Richard Nereau will deliver to us in Avon, in time for Mother's Day. Deadline to order is May 1. You may give me your order, and Richard will deliver them to my home on May 7. Or, you may order directly at president@deafrotary.org. Payment will be in advance, or at the time of pick-up.
A note from District Secretary Bill Redden: The Rochester Rotary Club will be observing Law Day on Tuesday, May 5, with a luncheon, celebrating the presentation of the 9th Annual Henry H. Jensen Memorial Award to Officer William Finnerty. The chair of the program is District Attorney Mike Green, and the committee promises a program you won't want to miss. There will also be a special tribute to Officer Anthony DiPonzio and the 12 officers who responded when he was injured. Keynote speakers will be D.A. Green and RPD Chief David Moore. Details are available at www.rochesterrotary.org/orgMain.aspstory. Or contact hrossi@rochesterrotary.org.
The Livingston County Business-Education Alliance announces its spring breakfast, May 1, at 7:15 a.m. at the Genesee River Restaurant, Mt. Morris. Call 991-5085 or e-mail cmalone@gvboces.org. for information.
Winner of our 50 / 50 raffle this week was Kirk Vanderbilt. Apparently, he chose to leave the country with his winnings. Have a great getaway time, Kirk.
Remember, ROTARY "MAKES DREAMS REAL"!
