Another bright sunny day in Avon, as I begin this newsletter for April 19!!
Marcy Cameron led us in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag on April 14, and Bert Croop offered a blessing. Bert reports that Betty has been moved to The Highlands in Pittsford. We hope she is recovering nicely.
In celebration of opening day, our songleaders and Gladys Iler requested, "Take Me Out to the BallGame".
Our guests tonight included our exchange student from Italy, Emiliano, and our Interact Club president, Danielle McBride.
We were glad to welcome Lori Cruz, representing the Avon InterFaith Council, and to hear about this year's fundraiser, being called, "Avon Walks against Hunger". Saturday, May 9, is the date, and walkers or sponsors can meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Village Hall. The walk is 3 miles long, all on sidewalks. Over the last 29 years this project has raised about $65,000 for this worthy cause. Envelopes for contributions or pledges are at our front table each week until then.
Remember Rochester Deaf Rotary's fundraiser: NEW price for one dozen red roses is $20.00, picked up in Rochester and delivered to Avon by Richard Nereau, and in time for Mother's Day.
Past Prez Bill Wall has set the cleanup project for Route 39 for Saturday, May 23 -- Doug Reed and Linda Kime report that is the best day for Interact Club students to help. Meet at the Scout House at 8:30 a.m. Breakfast for all, afterward, at the Village Restaurant.
The Building Committee -- Diana Williams, Kirk Vanderbilt and Rob Coyne -- are working to identify candidates for our building awards: one, for new construction, and one for a renovated or remodeled building. We hope to present these awards at a meeting in May.
Our best news this week is the proposed new member: Bruce Burritt, between trips to Florida, has had the time and interest to recruit Greg Johnson. We hope to welcome Greg to our membership list very soon!!
Celebrations this week: Doc Hayes reported on two weeks in Florida, and brought us up to date on Barb Cole's health situation. We hope she will be back home and recuperating, soon.
Bill Wall celebrated a wonderful Easter with family, a pretty big crowd!! and brunch for the bunch. Kirk Vanderbilt and family enjoyed being there, too. Wayne Warriner celebrated his grandson's first birthday, and an upcoming trip to Georgia.
Danielle announced that the Interact Club has collected $263.00 for the Pennies for Polio drive. That's an amazing accomplishment!! When I announced this to our District Governor, Mike Leone, he was much impressed. Congratulations, Interact-ers.
Our Quad City gathering will be on Monday, June 8, at Livingston Country Club. Geneseo is the organizing club this year, and president Chris Rider will have firm prices for us in a few days. Remember, there is no meeting on Tuesday, June 9.
Jerry Dougherty claimed the 50 / 50 proceeds this week.
There is no new news from District: DG Mike Leone called me for a club update as the year rolls along. He's looking forward to the District Convention in Cleveland in two weeks, and the wind-down of his year.
I'm looking forward to seeing all of you on Tuesday, April 21.
Remember, ROTARY "MAKES DREAMS REAL"!
