My best wishes to each and every one of the Avon Rotary Club members, for a healthy 2009, and -- if not prosperity (that's too much to hope for) -- at least stability.
We've received a great deal of information about our Milt Matthews Hospitality guests, who are due to arrive Friday, January 9:
Suresh is a graduate of the Hyderabad Public School, and Nizam College, Osmania University. He joined his (late) father in professional accountancy practice. His wife Madhu is also a Chartered Accountant; they operate a professional practice in Audit, Accountancy and Taxation, under the name Sekhar and Suresh, at Secunderabad.
Suresh joined the Rotary Club of Secunderabad in 1990, served as its president in 1998 - 99, when the club won 13 awards at the district level. He attended the Rotary International Convention in Singapore in 1999 and the centennial in Chicago in 2005.
He was GSE team leader for a Chicago visit in 2003; he has served his District as treasurer, secretary, GSE chair, and Assistant Governor, and in organizing the District Institute in 2003.
Suresh and his wife Anne Madhu are both Paul Harris fellows and members of their District's Paul Harris Society. During the 2001-02 year, he was in charge of Rotary's "Global Quest" programme as District Chair, Membership Development and Retention, and their district stood first in the Rotary world.
The Sureshs have two sons and a daughter, all of whom are pursuing their studies.
Their Rotary District 3150 comprises a major geographical area of the South Indian State of Andhra Pradesh, and consists of the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, 24 Rotary clubs; the Telangana region, 19 clubs, and Guntur-Prakasham area, 26 clubs; in total the district has around 2800 members.
The city of Hyderabad has become an I.T. hub in recent times. However, in rural and slum areas, provision of safe drinking water is a priority. Many schools in these areas need safe drinking water and sanitation facilities, and also need desks for the children.
If you're interested in more details, see Suresh's biography, a description of his Rotary District 3150, and maps of his country, his state, and his district.
For our own information: they are both vegetarians. Please be guided by this in preparing the snack foods you will be bringing to our gathering on January 11.
Meantime, have an excellent New Year's observation, and I will look forward to our first meeting of 2009 on January 6 -- just prior to our guests' arrival on January 9. I will be MOST happy to have one or more Rotarians accompany us on some sightseeing activites during their stay here.
Remember, ROTARY "MAKES DREAMS REAL"!

For nearby make-up options, check the back of our paper directory or the on-line directory of District club meeting times and places. If you do a make-up, please tell Secretary Diana about it right away, so the correct numbers are reported to the District. |
