Don Cook led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, Bert Croop offered a prayer, and Tim Dickinson and the rest of the song-leader bunch saluted our "Grand Old Flag" when we gathered on October 7. Great work, songleaders, and Gladys Iler, for your autumn-music selections.
Special congratulations again go to our first Student of the Month, Danielle McBride. Along with her academic achievements, Danielle is president of the InterAct club, and promises to bring other students to meet with us.
October birthday celebrations were in order for Charlie Pease, Laurie Vonglis, Linda Kime, Helen Zamboni, and the absentee members, Hal Cole and Jamie Shoemaker. October wedding anniversary is being noted by Ted Coyne. Hope Hal Cole remembers his wedding anniversary in October, but if you don't show up at a meeting, Hal, we can't remind you of the date.
Wayne Warriner won the "No Fine" button auction, with an $11.00 contribution. Wonder what Wayne is up to, to spend so recklessly??
Other celebrations included: Diana Williams is now an assistant vice-president at the Bank of Castile. Excellent work is SOMETIMES rewarded, even by the banking industry. Karl Sawicki celebrated successful arthoscopy on his left knee, and also the 12th tournament for Muscular Dystrophy, supported by his company. And in addition, Karl recognized the Bank of Castile and Diana for quick action on a corporate fraud incident. Dave Henehan celebrated attending Scottish games in New Hampshire while on vacation there. Kelly Cole celebrated surviving a bottle of Kahlua. Is that what you celebrated, Kelly?
Sue O'Hearn had a bunch of celebrations, starting with the birthday of her son, Marcia Cameron's help at the sign-in table, being part of the Student of the Month award presentation; and Sue updated us on Bill Gee, who's recovering from a badly twisted ankle.
Charlie Pease celebrates Cook's Gas Stations. Did you think Karl would discount the gas for you, Charlie, by your celebration?
Kirk Vanderbilt celebrated the recovery of our storage building after a gigantic tree fell on it. The tree gets bigger with each telling. At any rate, thanks to all who are helping repair the damage.
Wayne Warriner modestly acknowledged receiving the Veterinarian of the Year Award from the New York State Veterinary Society. Congratulations are certainly in order for that recognition.
Our Student Awardee, Danielle, gave the club a report on attending the RYLA leadership program, which she considered very useful. About 20 Avon students are currently signed up to be InterAct members. Danielle's volunteer activities include mentoring, volunteering where needed and 4H secretary. InterAct will be providing the breakfast and grilled foods selections at our November 8 auction. Be sure to patronize the InterAct-ers serving us that day.
Club Announcements:
Mark Evans was the big winner of the 50/50 raffle. Mark, you have to practice SHARING the proceeds with your fellow Rotarians. Let Tom Vonglis be your role model there.
Next Board of Directors meeting is Monday, October 13, at 7:30 p.m. at Hurricane Technologies conference room. We'll see everyone back at Peppermints on Tuesday, October 21.

Dear Avon Rotary,
Guten Tag! Sorry I have not written sooner but I've been very busy. This is just a quick note to tell you that everything is going fabulous, and I'm already involved in the community here. I will be sending pictures and newspaper articles (I've made it into the newspaper twice already!). I can't thank everyone enough for giving me this opportunity and I will be sending more updates shortly.
Tchuss!
Alex
