Avon Rotary Newsletter |

Our newsletter this week is going to be pretty brief, as it's been a busy week.
And that busy week was capped off with a great Appreciation Party at Jerry and Kim Dougherty's home, with the two party planners extraordinaire, Tom and Laurie Vonglis, doing all the arrangements, lugging chairs and tables, setting up beverages and snacks. Julie Carney's catering specials added to the great food everyone brought. I'm glad I noticed that extra line of copy in the party flyer, which said, "Everyone bring a dish to pass, except the president". Thanks to all the rest of you who furnished such delicious treats.
Kevin Tompsett is to be MUCH congratulated for the excellent work he and everyone on his committees did, to produce such terrific results. Great presentation, also, Kevin, at the party, outlining all the work done by the many Rotarians -- and non-Rotarians -- who make this such a success. Many thanks to Bill Wall for volunteering to bring the net up to that magic dollar amount. What a guy.
I'm sure Kevin, Laurie, and the rest of the Board will be interested to hear any comments from the folks attending, on whether they liked this kind of appreciation party for volunteers and contributors.
The first of our Student of the Month Awards will be presented on Wednesday, October 1, and Sue O'Hearn will co-present with Prez Barbara. We look forward to connecting with our Avon students each month with this project. We do thank Superintendent Bruce Amey and Principal Chris Salinas for arranging to have a student identified and honored each month.
Remember to get in your reservation for the October 14 Rotary-Lions Picnic to Laurie Vonglis. Cost to Rotarians is $15.00.
Also, remember to reserve for the October 29 83rd Eastern Cities Dinner. This is a wonderful evening -- you don't need me, to tell you about it -- and we always come away with some fine information and inspiration from the International President.
See you all on Tuesday, September 30. Our program includes a presentation from the Membership Committee, who have some new materials and a plan to share with all of us.
Remember, ROTARY "MAKES DREAMS REAL"!

If you do a make-up, please tell Secretary Diana about it right away, so the correct numbers are reported to the District. |
