Avon Rotary Newsletter

Issue #10     2008-09-07

President's Message

Looking forward to Saturday, September 27, for our Annual Appreciation Party. Party planner extraordinaire Laurie Vonglis is still accepting reservations for our party at Jerry and Kim Dougherty's home, 6:00 - 10:00 p.m. It's sure to be a wonderful evening.

Rotary Foundation is soliciting candidates for a Group Study Exchange, to Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, during May 2009. Both team leader (Rotarian) and team members (non-Rotarian and not directly related to a Rotarian) candidates are needed. The district also seeks hosts for the team from Brazil for about four days when they visit in April - May 2009. Details available at www.Rotary.org, click on Service and Friendship, click on Fellowship, click on Group Study Exchange. [Or simply click here. HK]

There is still time to attend a Membership Workshop: Saturday, September 20, at Roberts Wesleyan College, starting at 8:30 a.m. (or the following Saturday, September 27, same time, but at Houghton College), ending by 11:30 a.m. Our club will pay the workshop fee for anyone who wants to attend. All you folks who will be working on increasing membership for our Avon Club (and that's ALL of us) are encouraged to attend. Contact President Barbara A.S.A.P.

It's not too early to mark your calendar for the Eastern Cities Fellowship Dinner, Wednesday, October 29. Featured speaker will be President Dong Kurn Lee, R.I.'s International President.

And a new award to be presented at that dinner: "Make Dreams Real" Club Recognition. This will identify a club whose recent service project demonstrates the year's theme. The project 's initial inspiration, coordination and participation must be demonstrated. What about the building of the storage facility? Let's hear some ideas on nominating this project.

We are STILL looking for a volunteer to attend a District Literacy Seminar Thursday, September 18, or Thursday, September 25. Avon should not be the ONLY club with no one representing us. Please -- contact your prez to volunteer and attend.

Your meeting Tuesday, September 9, will be chaired by your past-president Bill Wall. At least, he promises to be there and chair the meeting. THANK YOU, PAST PRESIDENT BILL. I'll be monitoring the voting at the Village Hall, for the Primary Elections, along with three other Election Inspectors. And I'll see all of you next week!!

Remember, ROTARY "MAKES DREAMS REAL"!

President Barbara Herman

Looking back on...

President Barbara encourages all who missed a meeting to call another AWOL and do a make-up together. If you do a make-up, please tell Secretary Diana about it right away, so the correct numbers are reported to the District.
