President's Message

For the week ending August 17, we had a great many things to celebrate this week.

First and foremost, the FANTASTIC work done by Kevin Tompsett in organizing and managing this year's Corn Fest. Although he was not able to be with us at our Tuesday meeting (hope you're getting some rest, Kev!) , preliminary reports are excellent.

Kirk Vanderbilt and crew had scrubbed, scoured, and repainted our corn booth in preparation for the Fest. Thanks, Kirk!

And Tom Vonglis, who cooked those corn fritters ALL day, what "service above self" you demonstrated!!

Kelly Cole, the corn fritter booth directorship suits you very well. Great job done by all the prep people, the butter melters, the fruit drink mixers, the corn steamers, the servers and the ticket sellers.

And thanks to Doc Hayes and all the folks who worked the 50/50 raffle and the souvenir booth.

Big winner of the 50/50 raffle at the Corn Fest was Diana Williams' husband Rick. Great to keep the money "in the family" !!

Rotary pins with our '08 - '09 theme, "Make Dreams Real" were distributed to ALL our members for ALL their work before, during, and after the big day.

Mark Evans celebrated finally getting rid of -- oops, selling to real collectors -- the last of the "cornie babies".

Steve Stephenson paid a fine for leaving the Rotary banner from our Sicilian visitors on the front table. What disrespect you show to your president, Stevie, "walk it off". Fine example you are for our exchange students to observe. We did have our outgoing exchange student, Alexandra Zobel, join us before heading off for her year in Germany.

Bert Croop celebrated 62 years of marriage with Betty. Congratulations, Bert and Betty!

Wayne Warriner fined your president for missing the fact that he was not present last week to join the anniversary celebrants. Sorry, Wayne and DeeDee. Congratulations to you two, too.

Helen Zamboni paid a fine for publicity in the D & C, announcing husband Steve Rosen's finally getting some payoff from Global Crossings investments. It's a long story, actually.

Some club announcements: Friends of Father Symon Jubilee School for Nomads thanked our club for our generous donation, helping to provide a well on the school property.

A seminar to "Kick It Upstate -- Growing our Region" will be held at GCC, Batavia, September 11. The $25.00 cost includes a dinner reception; contact foundation@genesee.edu for information or to reserve. Sounds like an excellent program.

Boy Scout Tim Boggs wrote notes thanking our club members for enabling him to attend summer camp.

Seneca Falls Rotary announces their "Wine, Water and all that Jazz" fundraiser on September 7. Here's a way to support another nearby Rotary Club. Contact www.rotarymusicfest.com.

District 7120 Literacy Committee is encouraging all clubs to attend one of two literacy seminars. We SHOULD have at least one member attend a seminar: Thursday evening, September 18, in Pittsford, or Thursday evening September 25, in Bath. Check the District Directory or website for info. We do need a club member to volunteer to attend.

And District 7120's Golf Tournament will be Friday, September 12, at Lima Country Club. For info: BillRedn@hotmail.com. Our club is asked to provide some door prizes for raffling off, also.

Thanks, Margo Harper, for providing our program for the night: a very nicely-done visual collage of our picnic gathering in July.

See you all at Camp Sam Wood, next Tuesday, August 19. Food will be served promptly at 6:30 p.m. Car pooling is being arranged.

Hans Koomen is creating a new mail list for our club and will discuss it at our next regular meeting at Peppermints, August 26.

Winner of this week's 50/50 pot was Tom Vonglis, $17.50 richer !

Remember, ROTARY "MAKES DREAMS REAL"!

President Barbara Herman

Looking back on...

Tue 8/12 Regular Meeting
Program: No program
Attendance: Absentees were not reported.

President Barbara encourages all who missed a meeting to call another AWOL and do a make-up together. For nearby make-up options, check the back of our paper directory or the on-line directory of District club meeting times and places. If you do a make-up, please tell Secretary Diana about it right away, so the correct numbers are reported to the District.

Looking forward to...
