It was great to welcome Cory Collins, who will be our second exchange student for the coming school year. Cory is going to Rome, his first choice in assignments. The terms of his exchange are that a student from his host family in Italy be in his American home at the same time. So Emiliano will be joining our club in August as our incoming student.
There were plenty of things to be celebrated at our July 22 meeting. Leading off was Mark Evans, who was celebrating a new load of mulch in his driveway Ð mulch seems to be very important to Mark. Kelly Cole celebrated the Town's newest grant through Senator Volker, of $500,000 toward the Opera Block project. Congratulations to all the Town Board members who worked to obtain this funding. Doug Reed celebrated a vacation; so did Hans Koomen, who visited his daughter in Colorado, where she is with the Aspen Music Festival. Tom Ippolito is glad to be back from his surgery. Although he greatly missed being with us at the Conesus Lake Picnic, he was pleased with the impromptu greetings from the club members that night. Sorry we had to use ruled notepad paper, Tom, but the wishes were genuine. Kevin Tompsett enjoyed a trip to Chicago where he and Sue were treated to concerts. Marcy Cameron celebrated her stepson's respite from the war with a visit to Avon. Laurie Vonglis celebrated a successful weekend retreat for Hurricane employees in the Adirondacks. Bill Wall celebrated something, probably that he is now past-president. His cell phone was so insistent, that Bill paid a fine for interrupting Kelly's celebration. Jerry Dougherty celebrated an excellent canoe trip with several Avon Rotarians and other non-Rotary types. It was especially exciting to have Ernie Wiard taking care of Jerry's wallet, the grill, the cooler, and other valuables when they were somehow dumped into the Genesee River mud. And Ben Siragusa celebrated Gladys Iler's memories of an Eastman School of Music rehearsal which was interrupted with the ceiling collapsing. Gladys's story was printed in the Monday, July 21, Democrat & Chronicle. Nice snapshot, also, Gladys!! We are so fortunate, as a club, to have Gladys's talents shared with us each week, as she prepares and performs some great piano numbers.
Laurie Vonglis is once again doing her fine job of coordinating and collecting for the July 28 get- together with the Geneseo and Cal-Mum clubs, starting with golf and finishing with dinner. We'd like to have good attendance at this event!! so if you haven't yet decided, contact Laurie at lvonglis@hurritech.com to make a last-minute reservation. There will be some exciting awards presented Ð brand-new categories of recognition.
Remember: no meeting next Tuesday, July 29. However, Kevin reminds all that there will be a final Corn Fest meeting that night. Our next meeting at Peppermints will be Tuesday, August 5. We will be auctioning off the No-Fine button for the month of August that night.
Don't forget to set aside August 19 to attend Genesee Valley Rotary Camp. Ernie will be cooking for our club and it's wonderful to see the results of our contributions to this week-long camp for kids with very special needs.
How did Mark Evans manage to win the 50/50 pot once again??
Remember to send your Member Survey questionnaire to Diana Williams. And, add this information: Offices held in Rotary, whether this club or any other.
