President's Message

President Bill

President Elect's Message

Our guests in January are Terry Daley and his wife, Debbie, from Rockhampton, QLD (Queensland, for you Americans), Australia, District Governor-Elect from District 9570. They will be arriving at the Rochester airport on January 4th at 6:50 p.m. and, of course, any Avon Rotarian who wants to be there to help greet them will be welcome to do so. The meeting will be at Barbara Herman's house on Sunday, January 6, beginning at 2:00 p.m. --- and thanks to Laurie Vonglis for designing a beautiful flyer to announce that gathering. This is our only meeting for the first week in January.

For some background on our guests, Terry has been a member of Rotary since 1996, named a Paul Harris fellow in 2003. He was raised on a dairy farm at Millaa Millaa, North Queensland, completed an apprenticeship as a refrigeration mechanic and worked for many years on cattle stations in the Richmond, Julia Creek and Kynuna and Rockhampton areas. In 1992 Debbie and Terry started a pest control company, which they sold in 2003, then retired, traveled to China a couple of times, then got bored and now own a shoe repair shop in Rockhampton.

President-Elect Barbara

Looking back on...

Tue 12/4 Regular Meeting
Program: 2008-09 Board of Directors Slate and Avon High Principal [Ben S.]
Attendance: MIA were Hal Cole, Kelly Cole, Don Cook, Dave Futter, Hans Koomen, Sue O'Hearn, Charlie Pease, Kevin Tompsett, Wayne Warriner, and Jim Yencer.

Pres. Bill encourages all who missed a meeting to call another MIA and do a make-up together. For nearby make-up options, check the back of our paper directory or the on-line directory of District club meeting times and places. If you do a make-up, please tell Secretary Shirley about it right away, so the right numbers are reported to the District.

Marcia's Notes:

No visitors Tonight. We celebrated Birthday's and Anniversary's. No Fine button was auctioned off and it went to Doc Hayes. Prez Bill did not have his button on tonight because he says it was stolen from Duffy's. Doc Hayes celebrated his grandchildren in the play Scrooge at the school. Helen celebrated a visit from her cousin Jan and daughter from Boston, and having Tim and Marne over for dinner. Laurie celebrated the fun time they had at the Rotary/Lions Christmas party. Barb celebrated the grant that was received by the Opera Block from NY State. Jim celebrated the $1,600 dollars raised from our club for the Rotary Foundation and a big thank you to Margo Harper matching the donation from the club. She received a Rotary Shares pin for Service Above Self. Tim shot a couple of does this season and celebrated that. Ernie celebrated his grandson's first year of hunting and shooting a buck. Kirk also celebrated getting a deer. (Someone gave it to him). Next year's Board of Directors was presented to us. Past President: Bill Wall, President Barb Herman, President Elect Kevin Tompsett, Senior Director Hans Koomen, Jr. Director Kirk Vanderbilt, Nomination for Director Laurie Vonglis, Secretary, Diana Williams, Treasurer Kelly Cole. Election will be in 2 weeks. There was no nomination from the floor. There was no program for the evening because the Principal from the school didn't show up because they had a snow day at school today. Everyone had hats on tonight and they were very interesting. So Prez Bill went around to everyone to see if they had a story to tell about their hats. 50/50 was won by Jim Tompsett.

Tue 12/11 Special Meeting
Program: Board of Directors Christmas Party
Marcia's Notes:

The Board of Directors Christmas party was held at the home of President Bill and Jill Wall. Thank you very much for hosting the party in your lovely decorated house. The party was a complete success. There was definitely a huge amount of food and a nice variety thank to Laurie for her E-Mails. There was some friendly and lively game of dice being played in the cellar. Bill Shaw couldn't be stopped it seemed. Bruna ended up being the big winner of the night by winning a game and getting the winnings from the other players. Thank you everyone for a wonderful evening. I'm sure everyone had a great time. See you at the next meeting.
