President Bill

President Elect's Message

Avon Club will be hosting a Governor-Elect (and spouse) from January 4 through January 8. We will plan our regular meeting for that period. We'll solidify the date at our next Board meeting (remind me, please, to have this on the agenda) So far, we do not know the country the guests will be from.

President-Elect Barbara

Looking back on...

Attendance: MIA were Joe Callahan, Hal cole, Don Cook, Tim Dickinson, Charles Feller, Dave Futter, Dave Henehan, Hans Koomen, Charles Pease, Bill Shaw, Jamie Shoemaker, Ben Siragusa, Wayne Warriner, and Jim Yencer.

Pres. Bill encourages all who missed a meeting to call another MIA and do a make-up together. If you do a make-up, please tell Secretary Shirley about it right away, so the right numbers are reported to the District.

Marcia's Notes:

Guests tonight included Judge John Ninfo our guest speaker and our Exchange student Bruna. Tuesday night there will be no regular meeting. It will be Eastern Cities dinner. Meet at Peppermints to carpool. Helen Cole who was Sonny Cole's wife is recovering from hip surgery. Sign ups will be sent around soon for the different jobs at the Auction. Sue O'Hearn will be picking up the massive amount of salt we will be getting for the Auction. Jim celebrated a trip to Florida and he brought back a bumper sticker. Laurie celebrated the supplement in Sunday's D&C which had Tom's interview in it. Nice job. Barb Herman had an extra invitation to the Barilla plant grand opening tour and she put it out to bid. The highest bidder was Bob House who is going to give it to his wife. Prez Bill celebrated a (one way) ticket for his wife to go to California. Helen celebrated a long probably last ride of the season on her bike. Glady's played a song that Barb gave her sheet music for and she was very appreciative. 50/50 was won by Tom Ippolito. The pot continues to grow. Our speaker for the night was Judge John Ninfo. He is a bankruptcy judge and he started a program aimed at High School kids that they call the CARE program. Credit Abuse Resistance Education Program. And he told us about the Keys to Avoiding Bankruptcy. It is now in 46 states and soon to be 50 states and the program started in Rochester about 10 years ago. Most of the people who end up in bankruptcy court are intelligent people but they are financially illiterate. 70% live paycheck to paycheck. He gave us some handouts that included articles in the paper and a sheet about the CARE Program. It was very interesting and you missed a good program if you weren't there. The big thing is to avoid credit card debt, pay your bills on time, look for ways to save money, open a savings account, create a budget, pay any debt off as quickly as possible. There is lots of consequences to abusing credit cards and other consumer debt. Don't get caught in the trap. Thank you Judge for sharing all of your stories with us. See you at our regular meeting on the 30th.
