Pres. Bill encourages all who missed a meeting to call another MIA and do a make-up together. For nearby make-up options, check the back of our paper directory or the on-line directory of District club meeting times and places. If you do a make-up, please tell Secretary Shirley about it right away, so the right numbers are reported to the District.

Marcia's Notes:

There were no guests or visitors this evening. September 25th Tuesday evening will be our Steak Dinner at the VFW. Cocktails start at 5.00pm. Guests are invited to attend. October 6th will be the Eastern Cities Dinner. Our Rotary Auction will be held on Saturday November 3rd at the Avon Primary School. If you didn't pay your dues yet please do so. Our exchange student Bruna will be arriving Saturday from Brazil. She is very excited and nervous. Thank you to Don Cook for all his work in getting her here. The New Membership Directory will be out soon for anyone that has been anxiously awaiting its arrival. Celebrations tonight included one from Charlie Pease regarding the new Avon Chamber of Commerce President Kelly Cole, and his new ideas with big changes coming up. Helen celebrated her purchase of a new riding bike. It's more comfy with bigger tires and 27 gears for all her riding challenges. Tom Ippolito celebrated a golf package that he was in with his wife. They had a good time. Prez Bill celebrated his 65th Birthday. Looking good. Happy Birthday. A celebration to Don Cook for all his work with the Exchange Program. He received a pin. Mark Evans was also pinned for all his work with the Rotary Auction. He has run the auction for the last 4 years but has been involved for years. Mark also presented the program for the evening. You guessed it. The program tonight was the kick off for the Auction. It has been going on for about 50 years. They started at the circle in town and Rotarians had to guard all the items all night long. It takes a lot of work and it has to be very organized to pull the Auction off. We also have to make sure we have lots of "asses" in the seats. (not my words). We will be doing the placemats again and placing them in different restaurants in Avon. We will also have an ad in the Penny Saver. We all need to bring in baked goods to Auction off although some of us may want to bring in something someone else bakes (like myself). We can donate lots of different and unusual items, certificates and services. We need to be creative and we all have to do our part to make this successful. We also need to have a registration form for each item. These are available at the meeting along with a list of Timetable and Expectations of all Rotarians. Do not bring items to Mark or Kelly or their houses. Just bring the gift certificates to them at the meetings. Remember things need to be turned in on time, and no junk. Deadlines are very important. This is our second biggest fundraiser of the year. Kelly was also given credit for all the work that he does for this auction as the treasurer. Thank you again Mark for all your work and the program this evening. I'm sure we will be getting more information as the weeks leading up to the auction approaches. 50/50 was won by Ben Siragusa. Congratulations. See you next week.

Marcia's Notes:

Our guests tonight were Bill, Colleen, and Britney Valone and our Exchange Student from Brazil Bruna, and AG Richard Nereau. Anyone still owing dues please get them in ASAP they are way overdue. Thank you. The boys returned from their fishing trip, which included Jim, Ernie, Jerry, Bob House, Joe Callahan, and Doc Hayes. There were a lot of fish stories. Diana celebrated her mini vacation in Long Island where she visited her Dad for his 70th Birthday. Diana also sent around a sheet for donations as she is walking in the breast cancer walk. The bank is going to match what she collects. Tim Rogers celebrated his and Marne visiting her parents in Minnesota. Charlie celebrated Diana's return from her vacation because the bank is so much better when she is there. Kelly celebrated his tee shirt that he was given at work after helping them get 10.4 million and all he got was a lousy tee shirt. Hans celebrated just getting back from camping with his wife in the 1000 Islands and their very interesting weather conditions. Laurie had her 6-week checkup and she has gotten the green light to resume all her regular activities, which Tom was very happy about. Jerry celebrated the 36 people that went to the Notre Dame game. AG Richard updated us on the Literacy Project and other happenings in our district. October 5th is the deadline to put in an application to be District Governor for anyone interested. It was brought up that Jim Tompsett would be perfect for this and Richard told us that he has already given him information to be an Assistant District Governor. We all agreed that this would be a good thing. He also talked about the schools that we support with books. We hope to collect 15,000 books for this project and almost 5000 books have been collected. Jamie Shoemaker was pinned for his contribution of money to cover some of the cost of printing placemats to put in different business for our Rotary Auction. Helen was the first one to turn in something for the auction. Our Rotary Exchange Student Bruna told us about her country. She arrived on Saturday and is staying at the Vallone house. She told us she cares about them already, and they said she is very friendly and receptive. She has a sister, a mother who is a housewife and her father is a cardiologist. 50/50 was won by Bruna -- thank you to Jim for giving her tickets.

Tue 9/25 Special Meeting
Program: Steak Roast at the VFW
Attendance: MIA were not reported.

Marcia's Notes:

Our meeting this past Tuesday wasn't a meeting at all. It was a steak roast held at the VFW. The wonderful dinner was provided by Carney Catering and was very good. Thank you Julie and Jim and Thank you to Laurie for arranging and putting this together. We all had a wonderful time and a pleasant evening until Prez Bill asked for stories. They were all very amusing but by the end they were going downhill very quickly. We hope everyone had a good time. See you at our next regular meeting at Peppermints.

Thoughts for the week

This week's thoughts are courtesy of Rotarian Wayne Warriner.

If you had to identify, in one word, the reason why the human race has not achieved, and never will achieve, its full potential, that word would be 'meetings'.
