Welcome to Camp Sam Wood that is where we held our last
meeting. It was a beautiful evening and the camp was wonderful. We
enjoyed a delicious dinner of awesome chicken, corn on the cob,
salad, and salt potatoes. Thank you Ernie for the wonderful dinner.
We had many guests tonight. Our guests included Steve Vanderbilt,
Polly Hayes, Jennie Ippolito, Sally Tompsett, Ginny House, Kim
Dougherty, and Ed Kime. We also welcomed Jill, Doug, Dean, Catrina,
Courtney, Jeannie and Stan who were there with Jim Yencer. Also
Christian and Olivia. Thank you all for coming. Camp Sam Wood has
been in operation for over 40 years. Steve Stephenson had the
opportunity to present a Paul Harris Fellow Award to Jim Yencer who
has given many hours to the youth in the Avon area and has umpired
from 2000 to the present and is also Scout Master for troop 26 and
treasurer for the Corn Fest. Jim's short and to the point speech was
"WOW". Congratulations Jim. Bart Bartalo Jr.Êpresented us with a
short presentation about the camp. This is the 44th year of the camp
and his 27th year here. The camp is having 99 kids this year. There
is 72 Full time staff members and lots of volunteers. Donations and
support keep the camp going. Our group has donated money for the
purchase of new set of stairs in the pool. If you weren't able to go

Prez Bill opened the meeting for the evening. There were no
guests this evening but we were glad to see Laurie Vonglis with us
after having surgery. John Hall our District Governor will be here at
our next meeting. Celebrations tonight included one from Diana
Williams celebrating the rain because their well ran out of water.
She also celebrated a 2 week vacation. Tom Vonglis celebrated
successful surgery for Laurie. Our condolences also go to Tom and his
family for the loss of his father. They have also celebrated their
26th anniversary. Helen celebrated a vacation and bike trip in the
Adirondacks. The weather was mid 90's for her 68 mile ride. Margo
went to see the play Menopause and loved it. Dave Henehan missed our
last meeting because he was attending a wedding the West Coast where
he also went skinny dipping. Past President Wayne was asked to take
the gavel. Tom Ippolito told us that his wife Jennie has a sizable
vegetable garden so he took a big bag of beans and some extra bags to
coffee at the diner. Prez Bill said he would take them all, he even
took the extra bags. When Tom drove by his house he said that Prez
Bill was selling the beans outside his house. So he had to pay a
fine. Helen is riding in the MS bike ride and she is looking for our
support. She will be riding a total of 150 miles. We also celebrated
Birthday's and Anniversaries for August. The No Fine Button was
auctioned off with the highest bidder being Kevin Tompsett. There
will be no board meeting on Monday August 13th it will be held the
following Monday night. 50/50 was won by Barb Herman. See you at the
CornFest. |
